Dragon*Con has, sadly, long since come and gone. It was wonderful, though, as usual. Here are some of the highlights of this year’s Con experience for me.

Thursday Throwback: Dragon*Con 2008
2008 was my first real Dragon*Con (I had been in 2007, but only for Monday – and most everyone leaves Monday, so I didn’t get the full D*C experience).
I also didn’t bring my camera around, so the only pictures I have are those I found of us. This post will feature some pretty adorable cameos by Mary.
Dragon*Con 2011 – Sunday
“Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
If you’ve a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind.“
– The Sorting Hat
We started off Sunday as Ravenclaws. I made both of our ties and our skirts. My brother carved my wand.
“On the mike is the queen
so listen to me sing
he wanna number 5
super size onion ring.“
– Bon Qui Qui
Dragon*Con 2011 – Saturday
Saturday morning we woke up a little later than planned. After quick showers (I said, “I’m not sure if I want to wash my hair. It’s gross, but I’m just going to shove it into a rib cage later.”), we checked out the crowd from our hotel (we stayed on the 50th floor of the Westin – oooh fancy). We noticed a parking deck across from the Hard Rock & decided to watch the parade from there instead of battling the crowds at street level. At 9:45 a.m., we rolled out and were on the 5th floor of the parking deck with room to stretch out before the parade started at 10 a.m.
Dragon*Con 2011 – Friday
Last weekend (Labor Day weekend) was, as it is every year, my favourite weekend of the year. The best 4-day costumed nerd party there has ever been – Dragon*Con! For those who don’t know, Dragon*Con is multigenre – sci fi, pop culture, science, literature, music, costuming, etc. – convention that takes place in Downtown Atlanta every Labor Day Weekend. I can’t find an exact number for 2011, but there were ~40,000 attendees in 2010, and I know the number increased this year. Basically, giant nerd party.
The two weeks before Dragon*Con were pretty much completely devoted to sewing my costumes, thus my absence from the blog world. This year, I only made two new costumes – Lorena & Bon Qui Qui (you can see reference pictures and videos in this blog post). Last year, I was a bit more ambitious and made 4. I re-used two of those this year, but perhaps I’ll post a Dragon*Con 2010 flashback later on.
